I just ordered my new lens set to use with my sony a5100 (and soon a7). I got a Nikon 50mm 1.4 AIS, a Nikon 24mm 2.8 ais, and finally a Nikon 105mm 2.5 ais! The reason I'm getting these is because I had to return the voigtlander lens since got a lemon that was pissing grease all over the place. So along with the money I got from selling my old Canon 450D I'm buying a set of AIS lenses!
I'll take 911 RS for $5000

Nice! They all look to be good choices for street photography, the a7, and in general!

Cool! That's one cool think I learned about my (still inbound) D7000: It's backwards compatible with lenses made after 1977...
Also, well done on the A7 - that's a nice piece of hardware...

The d7000 is an amazing camera. One of the best sensors in crop sensor cameras! My a5100 shares a sensor with the d7100 and I'm amazed by it. The main difference I understand is the d7100 having more megapixles than the d7000. I also don't have an A7 yet sadly, however I will soon...hopefully. The 24 is going to be an interesting one due to the 36mm field of view on my crop sensor. I'll tell you if I like it or not so you know wether or not to want it. I'll post up a review of them when I get them in later this coming week, however the all 5 star ratings on BH might be a bit of a spoiler alert. lol

Thanks! I think the 24 is going to get a ton of use on my a5100 due to the 36mm field of view! I can't wait for april to get here so I can get my a7!

Oh! I interpreted "(and soon a7)" as that you had one on order (not on the wish list :)
Regardless, yes, I did some reading (Ken Rockwell, I think?) speaks very highly of the D7000 (but seems lukewarm on the 18 to 105mm kit lens it's coming with). But this is why I'm happy that I can get any lense after 1977 to work on the camera. I look forward to your reviews!

Same thing goes for Sony's DSLR which, I think are compatible with the Minolta A mount (Sony bought Minolta's DSLR). And you can get adapters that maintain the Autofocus on a wide range of those lenses for the mirroless cameras from Sony.
Pentax too is pretty handy when it comes to their mount, since you can mount any K-mount lens (so all Pentax lenses after 1975) on the new Pentax DSLRs.

Pentax is also really nice, because it's a simple mount conversion (same register distance) to M42 lenses, unlike say... Nikon. M42 lenses can be adapted to Canon, but it's not quite as simple.
And while A-mount compatibility is nice, Minolta's best lenses are all MC/MD mount. And yes, I'm totally biased as I love my MC 35/2.8 and MC 58/1.2.

I've read some really good things about the 24/2.8. I think I'm saving up for either the Samyang/Rokinon 24/1.4 or maybe Sigma's new 24/1.4, but I'm not looking for a small lens!
What focal length do you find yourself shooting at most now?

Before getting my Fuji Camera I was looking at Pentax DSLRs, they offer really great feature for the price they are being selled at. All of them (excluding the low end K500) are weather sealed, even for $500, you can mount a huge array of lenses on them as you've said, so it can be cheaper than the other brands to own, and they offer some nice performance and quality. The only drawback might be the lack of accessories compared to Canon and Nikon (and maybe even Sony).

I really like 50mm and 130mm equiv.! The 50 millimeter equivalent is great for general use and if you want to do candid portraits it gives your subject more personal space. 130 is also great for if your at a parade and want to take pictures of people further away from you! 130 is also great if you want to obliterate the background into an oblivion of bokeh! between those two focal lengths I can take 90% of pictures I want. I can't wait to experiment with wide angle on the a7 though! I've never worked with anything wider than 50mm equiv.!

I looked long and hard at Pentax before settling on my a7. I was looking for FF, and the size of the Sony is incredible.

Nice! I think you'll like it, as 24mm is a really fun perspective.
I tend to shoot ~50mm for my every day shooting and then grab something wider when I go hiking or plan on shooting architecture. I just started (about a week ago) shooting a 35mm to see what it was like, and the perspective is way different. I find myself having to crop a lot for composition, but I'm slowly starting to adjust.
135mm is great for portraits and macro, if you put it on tubes. I'm really excited to break mine out when the weather gets a bit better and the flowers come out.
